Ferguson is a company dedicated to the production of premium quality Australian seafood.

Working the pristine waters of the Southern Ocean for more than 30 years, 3 generations of the Ferguson family have proudly fished for the magnificent Southern Rock Lobster (Jasus Edwardsii).

The Southern Ocean is an ideal growing environment for the Southern Rock Lobster in the cold, unpolluted waters. This is a region renowned for its unspoilt natural beauty that has not been affected by the type of industrial or agricultural pollution that has left a legacy in many other parts of the world.

Ferguson Australia is respected not only for its traditions in the local fishing industry but also for the depth of acquired knowledge which extends to marine research and forward-looking fishing practices to conserve this unique resource.

As Ferguson is vertically integrated, the company is focused on maintaining controls over quality through the entire process from “boat to plate”. As well as owning and operating lobster & king crab vessels from Kangaroo Island. Its holding tanks and packing facilities on Kangaroo Island and in Adelaide reflect its leading position in the industry.

In addition, the company has worked in close collaboration with culinary experts, food technologists and some of the world’s foremost seafood chefs to bring to selective markets a range of unique and innovative products derived from the Southern Rock Lobster.

The prestige Lobster gourmet range, with its unique frozen qualities and award winning packaging has open a new segment of lobster retail sales, away from the traditional live Lobster product.

Ferguson’s have spent the last 4 years developing these value-added products. State-of the-art technology has been developed to hold and feed Lobsters on land, to enable continuity of supply all year.

Our staff offer the expertise required in all facets of this industry and are available for consultation and assistance wherever they may be required. Ferguson has expertise and affiliations with many other Australian seafood products and we are available to act as consultants for products.

Fishery Location

The major fishery for the Southern Rock Lobster & Giant King Crab extends along the Southern shores of mainland Australia, and South to the island of Tasmania . The cool, unpolluted waters of the Southern Ocean are the site of one of the world’s best commercial fisheries and are recognised as a natural habitat for the Southern Rock Lobster and Giant King Crab.

The Spencer Gulf Fishery has the largest global catch of Western King Prawn (Penaeus Latisulcatus). The average catch is 1800 tonnes to 2000 tonnes annually.

Both regions are renowned for an unspoilt natural beauty that has not been affected by the type of industrial or agricultural pollution that has left a legacy in many other parts of the world.
